A book of Gourmet Muffin recipes written by Kelly Jaggers, “Moufflet: More Than 100 Gourmet Muffin Recipes That Rise to Any Occasion” is a hardcover book full of delicious and impressive recipes for unique muffins. About square in shape and 192 pages long, this recipe book includes a huge variety of muffin-based recipes to get you started on making any muffins that you want! Of course, all of the recipes are from-scratch, and none of the recipes call for pre-made muffin mix, so you can adjust ingredients in the recipes easily and as you see fit. This muffin cookbook is also printed in full color.
As you’ll notice, this book of recipes gives a huge variety of recipes. There are recipes designed more for dessert-type muffins, and there are breakfast-type muffin recipes as well. I absolutely loved this cookbook. The recipes are simple to follow, and while not all of the muffin recipes were something I’d want to eat (Sharp Cheddar Ale Muffins? Icky!), most of the recipes were something I’d definitely try. Out of the three I tried, all of the muffins turned out delicious and tasted about three-hundred times better than any muffin mix I’ve ever made muffins from. The recipes did take longer than muffin mix, but at the same time, they didn’t take that long, and they even looked really delicious without all that much effort. Plus, the glazes were really helpful, and adding glaze to a muffin automatically makes it look more delicious. (It’s just like an unwritten rule.)
One of the things I liked the most was just how concise and simple all of the recipes seemed. Some of the recipes a bit more difficult than others, but for the most part, the recipes were only one-page long and usually only had 6 to 8 steps. As someone who isn’t the most experienced at cooking, knowing that I could (and did!) make delicious muffins without too much difficulty was really important to me. The instructions were clear, and they never seemed like so much that I, a semi-beginner cook, couldn’t follow them. So even for you beginners out there, Moufflet: More Than 100 Gourmet Muffin Recipes That Rise to Any Occasion can still manage to help you make delicious muffins.
I love that this recipe book is a hardcover book. A lot of times, my recipe books are softcover, and when you have softcover books, they sometimes will shut or close on you because the covers are so light. Having this hardcover book really fixes a lot of that, and as long as I had a measuring cup or spoon on the pages, the book stayed open really nicely. That’s definitely something I could be spoiled by.
I do wish there were more pictures. I’m one of those people who will make food based upon how amazing the pictures of the food looks. So while there are definitely some amazing pictures in this book, I would have loved to see quite a few more pictures – if possible, to have a picture for every recipe. Most of the recipes do not have pictures. A couple do, butwith the full-color, hardcover aspect of the book, I would have definitely paid a few extra dollars just to have more of the recipes appear with pictures. That way, I have an idea about how to decorate and serve the muffins AND I’ll be more tempted to make them.
The recipes in the Moufflet cookbook are amazing. The couple I’ve tried taste delicious, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. None of them are too hard to make, either. Plus, it’s a hardcover cookbook which means that it’s definitely going to last longer than a softcover one.
I wish that there were more full-color pictures in this book. I love choosing foods based upon pictures, and with the few pictures in this book, it’s not something I can do.
If you want to make delicious and easy from-scratch muffins, this cookbook makes it really simple. All of the instructions are detailed enough to easily understand while still being short and to the point. There are so many different creative recipes in here, and you can make some cute AND delicious muffins from the recipes.
